About Ray-Ban: Ray-Ban first achieved great success by designing sun glasses for pilots in combat. With World War II quickly approaching in 1936, Ray Ban designed the first anti-glare aviator style sunglasses that used polarized lens technology newly created by Edwin H. Land, founder of the Polaroid Corporation. The Ray-Ban company was founded with the initial intent of protecting our pilot heroes of the sky with their vision while in flight. Ray Ban also designed the frame with extension of the lenses lower than sunglasses of that time to maximally shield an aviatoræ¯ eyes, which were repeatedly glancing downward toward a plane's instrument panel. Pilots were issued the glasses at no charge, and in 1937 the public was able to purchase the model that banned the sun's rays as Ray-Ban aviator sunglasses. Shortly, thereafter the Ray-Ban Aviator style became a world wide success. With it's unique style, the aviator style is still an icon of the fashion world today.
